Full Met Office forecast for Nottinghamshire amid Christmas Eve weather warning
The strong winds come just days after Storm Pia
Nottinghamshire is set to be hit by more strong winds this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a yellow alert for the county.
Gusts of more than 40mph are currently forecast to strike on Christmas Eve, just days after Storm Pia caused widespread travel disruption in our area.
The yellow warning comes into effect from 8am on Sunday, December 24 and is expected to last until 10pm the same day.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Strong, very gusty winds may again cause some travel disruption during Sunday, Christmas Eve.
“There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, and some branches and trees may be damaged or brought down
“There is a chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.”
According to the latest forecast, there will be highs of 12C on Christmas Eve and the worst of the wind is expected in the afternoon, with gusts of 43mph expected between 2pm and 6pm.
As for Christmas Day, the Met Office is forecasting a cloudy start for Ashfield, with rain, sometimes heavy, expected after lunchtime.
