Met Office verdict on when Storm Pia winds will end
There has been widespread travel disruption as strong winds hit Nottinghamshire
Storm Pia has hit the UK and strong winds have brought widespread travel disruption across Nottinghamshire.
Tram operator NET confirmed on Thursday morning, December 21, that a fallen tree had resulted in no services being able to operate between Hucknall and Wilkinson Street.
East Midlands Railway has confirmed there are ‘multiple issues’ across the rail network, with services on the Nottingham/Mansfield/Worksop route completely suspended.
The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning in place for Nottinghamshire until 9pm today.
According to the latest forecast, wind gusts of more than 40mph are expected to batter Notts until at least 3pm today.
However, the gusts will not drop below 35 mph for the rest of the day.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Early cloud and rain, heaviest in the west, clearing during the morning. Then a bright day with sunny spells, especially in the east, and showers, mostly over the Peak District. Very strong and gusty winds, gales likely over higher ground. Maximum temperature 12 °C.”
Going into Friday, December 22, the winds will start to subside, particularly in the early hours as they drop to below 20mph.
