Plans to create brand new school building in Nottinghamshire town
The current facility will be phased out in 2025
Plans have been submitted to create a new Sixth Form building for a Nottinghamshire school.
The move for the National C of E Academy, off Annesley Road in Hucknall, comes just days after it was announced the current Hucknall Sixth Form Centre building is set to be ‘phased out’, subject to a consultation.
The centre was run by the academy, part of the Minster Trust for Education, and The Holgate Academy and Queen Elizabeth’s Academy.
Now, it is proposed that from September 2025, The Holgate Academy and the National Church of England Academy will each offer an 11-18 curriculum on site, within their own academies. For the purposes of post 16 study, Queen Elizabeth’s Academy will be included within The Holgate Academy offering.
Plans submitted by the Academy, known as the National Comprehensive Technology College in the documents, states the centre will be built on the school grounds.
The single-storey building will be made from part timber and render clad.
Further details of the building have yet to be released, but following the announcement of the sixth form centre being phased out, a spokesperson for Hucknall Sixth Form Centre said: “We are confident that this move is in the best interests of the partner academies, students and staff, allowing academies more autonomy over timetabling and the structure of their academy day, and enabling students to remain in a familiar environment to pursue post 16 studies with teachers they know, whilst taking advantage of the many enrichment opportunities available to them.
“The proposed transition will be carefully managed by a project board to ensure that the quality of education provided throughout is consistently of the highest standard, and any disruption to students will be kept to an absolute minimum.”
Mac Construction Consultants is the agent for the project and a decision is expected by February 13, 2024.
