Met Office issues 2 yellow weather warnings for Nottinghamshire
Travel disruption is expected, the government agency says
Two separate yellow weather warnings have been announced for parts of Nottinghamshire on Tuesday, January 2.
Strong winds and heavy rain are expected to batter much of the county throughout the day, with travel disruption expected as a result.
Most of Nottinghamshire is covered by the two warnings, including southern parts of Ashfield. The rain warning was in place from 5pm on Monday, January 1 and will be in effect until 9pm on Tuesday.
The Met Office says: “Heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause some travel disruption.
“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
“Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
“Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.”
According to the latest forecast for our region, heavy rain is expected to fall for the rest of Monday, January 1. It will be a cloudy start to Tuesday, with rain predicted from 11am, getting heavy after lunchtime and not due to end until 7pm.
Meanwhile, the weather warning for wind will be in place from 8am on Tuesday, January 2 through to 9pm on the same day.
The current forecast suggests gusts of up to 25mph are expected during Tuesday morning, but they are not expected to exceed this, according to the current forecast.
In a statement, the Met Office added: “A spell of very windy weather, accompanied by heavy rain in places, is likely to cause some travel disruption.”
