24-hour yellow weather warning announced for Nottinghamshire
The warning covers the entire district of Ashfield
A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office, covering the whole of Ashfield and wider Nottinghamshire.
The government agency warns travel disruption could hit the county on Thursday, December 21, as many look to make a Christmas getaway.
The warning will be in force from 12midnight on Thursday and runs right through to 11.59pm.
According to the current forecast, temperatures will hit highs of 11C on Thursday, but gusts of up to 54mph will be expected by 3pm. Wind gusts are not expected to fall below 40mph for the entire day, the forecast also adds.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Strong winds are likely to affect a wide area through Thursday, potentially causing some travel disruption.
“There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
“There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
“There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.”
